Daryl Coleman has been named as club captain while becoming the first player to commit for the 2017-18 season.
A tenacious midfielder, Coleman made 28 appearances after swapping Whyteleafe for Walton in November, and added a single goal in a January defeat at Hythe Town.
The 28-year-old former Dorking Wanderers man will now look to lead the side as they prepare for a return to Waterside Drive, and felt the decision was an easy one with the backing of manager Anthony Gale.
Coleman said: “The ambition of the club made it an obvious choice to come back. Anthony has done a lot for me, so I kept my faith in him and he’s given it back to me. My target now is to get into the play-offs. Everybody hopes to win the league but we’d be happy with promotion. I’d like to score 10 goals this year, but as long as the team do well I’ll be happy.”
Gale added: “I’m absolutely delighted. After signing Darryl last season, he’s showed many qualities that suggest he can be a captain that takes this club forward. Moving into the new stadium, with an exciting era ahead, I feel Darryl will be a leader that players in the changing room can look up to. With our youth section ever-growing, he can definitely set an example to others.”
