Recap

A brace from Josh Kelly earned Walton Casuals a place in the Velocity Trophy Second Round with a 2-1 win over Bostik Premier side Kingstonian.

The Stags went into their third consecutive match at the Elmbridge Xcel Sports Hub on the back of an impressive 3-0 win over East Grinstead Town, and opted for an unchanged XI for the cup clash.

Sitting in 12th in the seventh tier, the K’s shocked the non-league scene just last month with an opening day victory over big-spenders Billericay Town, and started with former Stag Tom Collins up front.

It was Casuals striker Josh Kelly that would steal the headlines with his strikes either side of the break though. After winning a penalty shortly before the break, the Maidenhead United loanee stepped up from the spot to beat experienced goalkeeper Rob Tolfrey.

The 19-year-old added his second with a fabulous strike in the 73rd minute, and looked to have sealed victory for the hosts in front of the 157-strong crowd.

Three changes saw the introduction of Alfie Taylor, Michael Phillip-Ogbuogu and Stuart Baldwin, and the Stags looked comfortable for much of the game.

However, a momentary lapse of concentration in the closing minutes allowed Craig Edwards’ side to pull one back through Tom Derry.

Walton Casuals now go into the draw for the next round, expected to take place in early October.
