A new-look Walton Casuals head to the Reachfields Stadium to kick-off the Bostik South Division campaign against Hythe Town.
Just five players remain from the squad that concluded the 2016-17 season, with Daryl Coleman set to wear the armband for the first time. Roscoe Dsane, Denzel Gerrar, Max Fitzgerald and James Brace are the remaining four players to be a part of Anthony Gale’s current 21-man squad.
The Cannons recently announced the signing of ex-Gillingham defender Mitchell Dickenson, and welcomed Bostik League regulars Will Godmon, Ashley Miller and Callum Emptage into the squad over the summer. Former player Jordan Johnson-Palmer also completed a move to Hythe over the summer, and will look to made his competitive debut against the Stags.
The first of last season’s trip to the Kent outfit produced a memorable FA Cup affair, with late goals from Malachi Hudson and Luke Holness rounding off a 4-2 win. Two months later, Walton faced another journey – this time in the FA Trophy – and succumbed to a 3-2 defeat.
Welcoming Hythe to Church Road for the first time two weeks later, a third goal in four games for defender Max Fitzgerald led to a 3-1 win. A final trip to the Reachfields Stadium saw Hythe complete a 6-1 rout.
Hythe Town missed out on a play-off position by just five points with their 7th placed finish last season, six positions above the Casuals.
The match will also be a chance for the Stags to wear the new away kit for the first time.
